Shannon was recently the lucky recipient
of a special gift.
During the month of October, 2004,
Benjamin Moore paints had a cancer fundraiser called
"Decorate
for a Cure". Money was donated to the Canadian Cancer Society for every
can of Benjamin Moore paint sold. As part of this promotion, Benjamin Moore
picked a child with a history of cancer and performed a makeover on that
child's bedroom. Shannon was that lucky kid.
When we first heard about it, we thought that they were going to come in and paint Shannon's room. It went far beyond that. Shannon received all new furniture, custom made bedding and curtains (fabrics by Robert Allen), and all the special little touches that separate a regular room from a "designer" room. The only item that was reused, was Shannon's desk, which was painted a lovely hue of "Sweet Orange". The walls were repainted "Lemonade Yellow" and the ceiling was painted in "Blue Jean". You can find all these colours at your local Benjamin Moore dealer.
The transformation of Shannon's room
was documented by the good folks at "City TV" and aired on the show "Cityline"
on
December 23, 2004. You can read
about it on the Cityline website by clicking here.
Many thanks to all the people involved, Rita Wong and Linda Kennedy at the Cancer Society, Tagge the painter, and especially Scarlett Ballantyne from Benjamin Moore, designer extraordinaire.
Needless to say, but Shannon absolutely
loves her new room!
